New Poll: Majority of Americans Blame Biden Not Trump for Border Crisis

The Biden administration’s lax border policies and promises of amnesty have encouraged huge numbers of illegals to flood the southern border, and drastically increased the number of unaccompanied minors along with the risks of human and drug trafficking.

Recent polling finds Americans overwhelmingly disapprove of President Biden’s handling of the immigration crisis and most blame the new President – not Trump – for the chaos at the U.S. border. A new YouGov survey finds by a margin of 49% to 35% Americans disapprove of Biden’s handling of immigration, while a new The Hill-HarrisX survey finds voters blame Biden not Trump for the crisis 44% to 28% in a head to head poll.

Although views of Biden’s handling of the border crisis fall largely along partisan lines, significant numbers of swing voters – Independents, Moderates, and Hispanics – are critical of the administration’s inability to quell the chaos.

Moderates are also far from happy with Biden’s actions on immigration, with moderates disapproving of Biden’s immigration stance by a margin of 42% to 39%.

Even among those who voted for President Biden last November, 17% disapprove of the President’s handling of immigration, as do 19% of Democrats and 23% of Liberals.

Hispanics, who shifted significantly toward the right in 2020 particularly in states with large immigrant populations like Texas and Florida, also disapprove of Biden’s immigration response.

The latest polling shows Trump’s commitment to law and order, including at the border, may have driven his strong Latino support, and Biden’s lack of response to the border crisis is doing the opposite. When voters were asked which actions should be taken to deal with minor children who arrive at the border without a guardian, just 19% of Americans say they should be allowed to stay in the U.S. as permanent residents, while 28% say they should be returned to their home countries, 28% say they should be housed in government facilities until a relative is located, and 18% say they should be cared for by charitable organizations.

What is more, only a fifth of Latinos think unaccompanied minors at the border should be allowed to apply to stay in the U.S. as permanent residents. Twenty-one percent of Hispanics think unaccompanied minors should be allowed to apply for permanent residency, while 27% think they should be returned to their home countries, 29% think they should be housed in facilities until relatives can be located and 21% think they should be placed in the care of religious organizations.

The same survey found Americans blame President Biden for the crisis at the border by a margin of greater than three to one. Sixty-seven percent of Americans say Biden is at least a little to blame for the crisis at the border, while just 21% say he is not to blame at all.

Almost 70% of Latinos blame Biden for the crisis at the border, as do 70% of Independents and 64% of Moderates.

President Biden’s inaction on the border crisis is causing significant numbers of Americans, particularly Hispanics, Independents and Moderates, to blame Biden for the rising tide of illegal immigrants, unaccompanied minors, and human trafficking threats at the U.S. border. While many of these voters are disenchanted that the Biden administration isn’t processing illegals quickly enough, polling indicates most Americans, including Hispanics, do not support illegals being released into the nation.

Biden’s lack of action at the border and moves to end construction of the border wall and give amnesty to ‘Dreamers’ and as many as 11 million other illegals has created a perfect storm for criminality at the border.
