Poll: Biden Losing Swing Voters on Crime Civil Liberties and More

Biden’s falling numbers with White women and Hispanics combined with his low marks on crime and civil liberties represent serious issues for Democrats.

A new poll shows President Biden is losing support among key constituencies –including White college educated women and Hispanics – even as Trump’s favorable numbers are increasing with the same groups.

As Market Research Foundation pointed out last week, the demotion of Rep. Liz Cheney unified conservatives behind an America First Trump agenda. Republicans are now calling for the GOP to follow Trump’s example on economic issues (89%), immigration issues (88%), leadership (80%) and how to treat the media (77%).

It is not just Republicans who are unifying behind Trump, however. New data shows Trump’s favorable numbers are growing beyond his base, and he is earning higher support from White women, Westerners, Hispanics and young people.

Since Biden took office, Trump’s approval has risen 7 points with White college educated women, 10 points with Hispanics, and a substantial 12 points with Westerners.

Trump’s approval rating is also up 3 points with young people, and 3 points with Independents over the same period. Previous polling showed Biden’s dropped 4 points with college educated white women, 5 points with Hispanics, and a substantial 12 points with young people under age thirty since the inauguration.

Meanwhile, growing numbers of swing voters are critical of Biden’s handling of crime, civil liberties, civil rights, the economy, the Israeli-conflict and more.

Trump’s support among White college educated women has been steadily rising since Biden took office, from 34% shortly after the inauguration to 41% last week.

MRF previously noted college educated White women are increasingly critical of Biden’s election, with 24% saying Biden did not win legitimately in January while 31% said they believed fraud contributed to Biden’s win last month.

Less than half of college educated White women (44%) believe the U.S. is headed in the right direction now, and a majority disapprove of Biden’s handling of Israel 42% to 35%, with 26% strongly disproving.

In addition, 40% of college educated White women disapprove of Biden’s handling of criminal justice reform and civil liberties, 39% disapprove of Biden’s handling of the economy, and 38% disapprove of Biden’s handling of crime. An additional 34% disapprove of Biden’s handling of covid-19.

Forty percent of White college educated women disapprove of Biden’s handling of criminal justice reform and civil liberties, 39% disapprove of Biden’s handling of the economy, 38% disapprove of Biden’s handling of crime.

Democrats are in real trouble with college educated White women and will need to take steps to correct this trend before the midterms or risk significant losses.

Hispanics are also presenting an issue for Democrats. Over the past four months Trump’s approval among Hispanics has climbed ten points, from 26% in January to 36% last week.

Hispanics say the U.S. is headed in the wrong direction 44% to 43%, and 62% say the economy is poor or fair, while just 28% say it is good or excellent.

Forty-four percent of Hispanics say the U.S. is headed in the wrong direction.

What is more, 30% of Hispanics disapprove of Biden’s handling of crime, 29% of Hispanics disapprove of Biden’s handling of Israel, 29% disapprove of Biden’s handling of the economy, 27% disapprove of Biden’s criminal justice reform and 26% disapprove of Biden’s handling of civil liberties.

The largest spike in Trump support is occurring in the West, where crime continues to run rampant in metropolitan coastal cities while swing-state Arizona has endured national scrutiny over election fraud allegations.

Trump’s support in the West has risen 12 points, from 29% in late January to 41% last week.  Westerners are also increasingly critical of the Biden administration, with 40% disapproving of Biden’s handling of Israel, 33% disapproving of Biden’s handling of covid-19.

Meanwhile, 40% of Westerners disapprove of Biden’s job on civil liberties, 39% disapprove of Biden’s job on civil rights, 35% disapprove of Biden’s job on the economy, and 30% disapprove of Biden’s job on crime.

At the same time, Trump’s approval numbers are rising with swing voters, indicating a Trump-endorsement in 2022 could be a boon for GOP candidates looking to reach independents.
