“As Iowans look increasingly favorably at Trump, President Biden is struggling with one of his lowest favorable ratings on record.”
The latest Des Moines Register poll taken a few days before Trump’s Oct. 9 rally at the Iowa State Fairgrounds could foreshadow a lively 2024 election cycle. The poll finds 53% of Iowa voters approve of Trump, the highest approval rating he’s ever had from the Des Moines Register.
The poll also finds Iowans distrust President Biden 59% to 38% when asked about their trust in a list of institutions and individuals including The President of the United States. These are harrowing numbers for Biden in a state that often sets the tone for election cycles.

Despite being effectively silenced by tech giants Facebook and Twitter and relentlessly bashed in the mainstream press over a year after leaving office, Iowans hold an increasingly favorable view of Trump.

While Trump’s strongest support in the Hawkeye State naturally stems from Republicans, he has the approval of close to half of Independents. The Des Moines Register poll found extremely strong support for Trump among Iowa Republicans, with a full 91% holding a favorable view of him. Forty-eight percent of Independents also view the former president favorably.

As Iowans look increasingly favorably at Trump, President Biden is struggling with one of his lowest favorable ratings on record. Only once has Biden’s favorable rating sunk lower in Iowa than it is today. In December 2013 then-Vice President Biden’s favorable rating sat at a low of 36%. Now Biden sits at a favorable rating of just 37%, down 14 points since March of this year. His unfavorable rating has climbed 15 points over the same period.

Although the mainstream media is running horrified headlines like ‘The Most Alarming Trump Rally Yet’ (CNN), it isn’t surprising that in the wake of crumbling trust in the Biden Administration, voters are drawn toward Trump.
Market Research Foundation analyzed nationwide polling in late September showing more Americans say Trump is a better leader than Biden, and Trump has a higher favorable rating than Biden. The recent Harvard CAPS-Harris poll found 51% of voters say Trump is a better leader, compared to 49% who say Biden is.
The Harvard CAPS-Harris poll also found Trump’s favorable rating is higher than Biden’s. Forty-eight percent of voters say they have a positive view of Trump compared to 46 percent who say they have a favorable view of Biden.
On top of this, we know Biden is hemorrhaging support from voters he needs to win again.
Since January, Biden has lost ten points with both college-educated and non-college educated white men. Among college educated white men, Biden’s approval fell from 50% in January to 40% in September, while among non-college educated white men, his approval fell from 40% in January to just 30% in September.

Among college-educated white women, Biden is down just one point, from 56% in January to 55% in September. Among non-college white women Biden is down 9 points, from 42% in January to 33% in September.
Biden’s support has tanked 16 points with Hispanics, from a high of 61% in January to just 45% last month. Biden has also lost 12 points with Blacks, going from 77% in January to 65% early this month.
Biden’s support from voters under thirty fell 22 points, from a lukewarm 56% in January to an alarming 34% last month.
Biden’s approval numbers with Independents weren’t much to boast about to start with, but he’s lost another six points, going from 43% in January to 37% last month.
Biden must recoup his support from swing voters if he has any hope of hanging onto the White House. However his chaotic Afghanistan exit, legally challenged vaccine mandate, refusal to fix the illegal immigrant crisis, and massive $3.5 trillion spending bill could make that difficult.
